Art Heals Featuring Paintings by Maddy Bradley
"Art Heals" is a celebration of the healing impact of visual, musical and performance art. All artwork is for sale.
Since March of 2020 I've produced the bulk of my work in my at-home studio. It is in the comfort of my home that I have the energy to create. A quote from my 2019 Artist Statement includes the line, “It is [painting amidst the landscape] that the spiritual atmosphere becomes a heavy blanket for an overstimulated child, comforting.” Today, leaving home does not bring comfort nor vitality. Outdoors is chaos.
My painting process is usually quite fast. Working in a studio versus plein air has slowed my process down slightly. Regardless of location, I enjoy working wet on wet. Working with wet paint allows for liquidy sgraffito marks (scratching into the paint via palette knife). In my paintings, I pay attention to paint thickness throughout the process. Sgraffito works as a subtractive method while thick paint provides a body that together creates a nice topographic variety.
Most of the works represent places within either Minnesota or Wisconsin. The location of the painting can be found in the name. The paintings that are not plain air were painted from photographs.
