ARt Heals Featuring Paintings by Kari Maxwell
"Art Heals" is a celebration of the healing impact of visual, musical and performance art. All artwork is for sale.
With my daily practice of extensive writing and studio time, paired with my intuitive nature and long durations of deep reflection, a new body of work is born. Although I have worked with a variety of mediums and painted on a variety of subjects, I am best known for my paintings of animals. Through interaction and periods of long observation, animals have had a strong significance in my life. As I evolve as a human and as an artist, animals continually provide me with the voice to express myself.
A few years ago, I read this excerpt from the book, Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer, that seemed to connect many of the dots for me regarding my work:
"...in the Native ways of knowing, human people are often referred to as 'the younger brothers of creation'. We say that humans have the least experience with how to live and thus the most to learn - we must look to our teachers among the other species for guidance. Their wisdom is apparent in the way they live. They teach us by example."
In addition to being a visual artist, Maxwell is an educator and creative coach. She resides in Minneapolis where she works from her home studio continuing to live by her motto of creating everyday. In 2013, she founded The Create Everyday Classroom where she teaches intuitive art to students ages 4 - 12 years.
